How to Read a Tire Lettering Proof

A lettering proof is the reference for what you are approving, so it should answer more than whether the design looks attractive. Check the text, dimensions, color assignments, orientation and quantity represented. If a detail is absent, request it before treating the proof as final.

Read the wording before judging the style

Compare every character with your order. Check punctuation, capitalization and spaces as well as spelling. A familiar logo or phrase is easy to skim past, especially when a decorative font changes the appearance of similar characters.

Read long wording in separate sections and check it a second time against the typed specification. This is also the point to confirm that any simplified logo is the version you intended to approve.

Find the dimensions and their meaning

Look for character height and the overall artwork dimensions, with units. Ask whether a flag or stripe is included in the quoted height and width. Where the layout follows an arc, establish which measurement the proof uses rather than assuming a straight width and a curved length are interchangeable.

A picture that fills the page is not necessarily a life-size template. If a printable template is supplied, check its stated scale and measure a calibration reference after printing. Printer scaling can change the result even when the original file is correctly dimensioned.

Check each variation separately

Compare upper and lower arcs, front and rear configurations, and left and right directional graphics. One approved wheel image does not automatically define the other positions. Wording should remain readable; a directional graphic may require its own orientation decision.

Separate artwork approval from application suitability

Approving the image does not establish compatibility with every tire surface. Compare the stated dimensions with your physical placement measurements and resolve any raised features or fit concerns with the supplier. Keep application instructions as a separate reference; the proof is not a substitute for them.

Approve one identifiable revision

Use a specific statement such as “Approved: file Club-R03, dimensions shown, configuration quantities on order 123.” This is an illustrative format. If a dimension or color changes afterward, ask for an updated proof and approve that revision explicitly.

For custom lettering artwork, retaining that final file makes delivery checks and future replacements much easier than relying on a screenshot without a version or scale.
